Stilling Playing Tag! "Discover"

Can I try something without blue already?

"I always wish I knew more about my grandmother. She died of pneumonia on Valentines Day when my father was young. I am named after her. One of the few things I know about her is that she loved daisies and that she had them in vases around her home." LK

Self Portrait Tuesday: Mother and Daughter

My daughter took this picture of us yesterday with her new camera. People think we are sisters. I was amazed at how much we really look alike. I love that we are this close. She is an awesome daughter!

"Simple Pleasures" Tag

"Simple Pleasures" Tag Posted by Picasa

Notes: Used papers from retro stack, leftover quilt pieces, first time experimenting with photo markers on black/white printed photo. Saw these advertised in a scrapbook mag. Need to get another set with blues and pinks. I didn't realize I picked up a set of "neutral" colors but got purples, graystone, and yellow. Thank goodness for the 40 % off coupons at michaels b/c these new supplies are quite costly, especially when you are trying out everything and not knowing what you like/need most.
progress today: did something different and out of the box (silver ribbon), I'm usually so rigid, so I was happy I took a leap here.
unsolved mysteries: glue. I've tried them all, still looking for that "perfect" all purpose glue that won't warp, smell, or get things icky. I think I use too much glue. Definitely an area that needs help. Suggestions anyone?????

More tag a day...."It's a Bundt!"

Len wanted me to do one on "food". She is the snack princess around here and also a great cook, so it was no suprise. I made this one and gave it to her. I'm really learning alot by just trying new things on these tags. I need to use the rubber stamp marker on these letter stamps as I get the border thing around it. Also learned to experiment with different color combos and I liked the purple and red together. I also like when I layer stuff. Quote is from our favorite movie, "Big FATGreek Wedding...."It's a Bundt!"LK Posted by Picasa

MOre TAG junk

A Tag a Day Goal....

Bruno bought me a eyelet tool kit today. I had fun putting together a paper bag journal. Will post soon. Just experimenting lots of stuff. I do get discouraged when I can't focus and I end up making something I don't like. I ripped out a Christmas altered book layout I did. I put too much stuff on the pages, then tried to pull it together but really messed it up instead. I guess that is all part of learning and experimenting and I need to be patient. I hope I can get to the point where I can produce the effect I'm thinking of when I start. I need to figure out what works for me. LK

More Marilyn: I am leaving ATC's to have an affair with TAG's!

I enjoyed doing this so much. First attempt at creating a tag. I like that the canvas is bigger and that you can use it for something! Gift tags, little scrapbooks, on a scrapping page, journals, the possibilities are endless. Now I'm obsessed. I think I found favorite mixed media canvas!

ATC therapy

My back is acting up again. I totally crashed on the couch after a hectic w/e last nite. I got out my supplies and worked randomly on some ATC's. I tried using regular cards this time and experimenting with gesso and decoupage gels. I have yet to be satisfied with any of the lot. I wish I could find one product that will glue/dry and look the way I want it to! Here are a few that I did last nite. I also did a page in my AB and one in my art journal. I'm such a schitzo artist. I like to dabble in this and that type of paint/project etc., plus I am loving photography. I don't have this kind of time though so I think that is why I must try to do a little bit of everything when I do. Anyway, back to reality. Kids are coming home now. I gotta get crackin' on my shopping. More soon. LK

Bruno's Party

Bruno's party went great. Here he is cutting his cake with his Navy Sword. It was a very cozy party. Here is what I had on the menu:
HOSTESS DINNER
Hot Cider: This has become a tradition in my home at holiday time. Everyone loves hot cider! With the snowy weather it was perfect! It also makes the house smell great!
Seven Layer Dip (Bruno's favorite)
Stuffed Spinach tarts (yum, my "Southern Living" friend made this for me....her appetizers are amazing!)
Cheese and Cracker Spread
Dinner:
Stuffed cheese tortillini with creme sauce
Sweet/sour meatballs (everyone know they will get meatballs here this time of year)
Caesar Salad (I swear by Marie's Dressing)
Fresh Rolls
Desserts: Cakes, Pastries, Red Grapes
Mix all together, invite good friends and ENJOY! Posted by Picasa

Self Portrait Tuesday

Self portrait Tuesday
I am new to this idea, but love it. I would love to take part in this weekly exercise. This is me by the front door ready to go as usual with hair pulled back, don't feel like makeup on this snowy day. All I could say after taking this picture is "I clearly have my father's nose." LK

Here is one of my vintage christmas ATC (artist trading card). I'm participating in my first swap. I learned alot in the process. A big part of it is getting my hands on the types of things I want on my cards. I love vintage 1950's. Especially baking, homemakers, kitchens, etc.

Dear Santa....
All I want for Christmas is lots of more time and patience! LK Posted by Picasa

Here's my latest collage for my class. It's not complete yet. I'm still learning! So much to learn, so little time! I guess I have the time, but it's hard to put aside for my art. This is my "harmony" collage. I really love doing the decoupage part of it all. Once I get a brush in my hand, I'm off to never never land!

My Life on Outpost

Here is a collage I made in my first collage class online. I think I am discovering that I like the art of collage and art journalling more than altered books. I find that the altered books entail more "altering" techniques like windows etc. rather than just collage. I'm learning alot from the class. Here's my first "free flow" exercise.

Here's one of the earlier entries, first book. many of my favorite's all on one page. coffee and chocolate, my lists, picture of a strong woman-Jackie.

Here is a spread in my first altered book. This is my fourth spread. I'm finally back in action! I'm working away in this first book and exploring all the different things (trying not to obsess too much about it...my perfectionist tendencies).
I'm adding copies of old pictures I have, some new scrapbook stuff, fabric, ribbon and an illustration that neni made with hearts that I had saved. It's always difficult for me to throw away there little notes and drawings! A sentimental persons best friend is the altered book and collage journals!!! Finally a home for all my scraps of history. I finally set up my craft area and now I'm ready to go (I have carved out a small corner in my bedroom---I was never getting around to anything with everything in the basement). I put everything I needed most in my desk. It's a cozy area by a window. So much easier when things are all in one place and accessible. neni sat and did homework and read next to me while I was working on this spread. We had classical music on in the background. It was so relaxing! She later worked on her own spread! I will post up in few minutes. Got to get back to reality now! Make dinner, go to meeting, but always looking forward to coming back to my art! So much to learn. I love it! L.
